The Weave Education Building

Yuchen Qiu

Architecture, Building and Structure Design The Weave Education Building by Yuchen Qiu Adaptive reuse of a New York City H-plan masonry public school. The former connector is selectively removed and replaced with a mass timber and low iron glass atrium that forms a shared learning commons. The School of Methodology organizes learning as a cycle of instruction, practice, and discussion or reflection, and the new commons weaves these modes together through visible circulation, study edges, and gathering steps. Daylight and clear orientation improve daily experience, while reuse of the existing shell and timber construction reduce embodied carbon and construction waste.
